While we invite you to explore ALL of our activities, below is a description of each Activity category and a list of the activities that are most relevant to the 2006 program. ** Star indicates the NEW ACTIVITIES which came out in January 2006. Printable pages are available now. **Our new Related Topics this year (available now!) are: Mythology and Metamorphosis Here are the Answers to the Quiz on the People Like Me 2006 Trading Cards! There are four categories for activities that you can do with your students before and/or after the show. THINKING AND TALKING (and writing!)- discussion topics on related curriculum topics, including science, literature, history, dance, cultural perspectives, and identity. **The Donkey and the Tree - The story of the birth of son jarocho from Veracruz. **Country Study - This writing activity is geared for grades 3-5. Folktales – Learn about folktales from many countries, and make up your own! Folktale Detective - Read this Liberian folktale and discuss what it means to you! (also a KidsRoom activity) Creation Stories - We invite you to make up your own story of how something in your life once began! Proverbs - Discuss and interpret African proverbs Climb Your Family Tree - Discover the geography of your family tree, and find out what dance traditions you might have in your roots. Cultural Appreciation - The power of positive words, and understanding and appreciating differences. Why and How We Dance - An exploration of human reasons to dance. MOVEMENT AND MUSIC - This category contains musical instrument information pages, plus several movement and dance activities for your classroom. Gestures Have Special Meaning – Your students tell their own story, using their own vocabulary of movements and gestures. Movement Games – Guided games provide vocabulary for understanding movement qualities in their own movement and those in the show. ART AND CONSTRUCTION - The activities in this category inspire students' own creations in preparation for and reflection of the show. **My Metamorphosis - Reflect on how you've changed since you were a baby! There is a version for K-2 and a version for grades 3-6. Inside the Rainbow - Draw the rainbow of influences from the history of each dance they see in the show. Get Ready - Shows students what it takes to put on a performance and prepares them for the important role of audience member. Make A Musical Instrument - Instructions for creating a few instruments. RECIPES - Yummy traditional recipes from around the world, to prepare at school or at home as a special treat.
