2006:
“Meta-Myth-a-Morphosis!”

This year's related topics:
Mythology and Metamorphosis

On behalf of World Arts West and our 2006 cast, welcome to the 12th season of the arts education program of the San Francisco Ethnic Dance Festival, People Like Me!

This season we present a magical bookworm who lives in the Library of Legend and Lore. While ravenously learning about the myths of the world, he finds myths that are only told through music and dance! During his unexpected voyage, he discovers the story dances of Africa, Mexico, China, Afghanistan and the North American Plains. Through this, he gains new understanding of the diversity and importance of cultural traditions, and the connections between people around the world. Our worm also discovers that the beauty he has experienced in his adventure is reflected in a magical, yet entirely scientific, transformation. Lore and myth, intercultural appreciation, and metamorphosis are the focus of this year’s program.

Presented in an engaging and interactive one-hour performance, the theater experience and its supporting curriculum material in our award winning Viewer’s Guide present a multidisciplinary and multicultural approach to meeting State Content Standards for Visual and Performing Arts, Science, Language Arts, and Social Science, while exposing children to the rich diversity of performing artists living in Northern California.
