2005 Recommended Activities

Animated TreeThis section contains activities in four categories that you can do with your students both before and after the show. KidsRoom activities are for the children to do online, or to print and do on their own.

Here's a description of each category and the recommended activities within them for the current year. While we invite you to explore ALL activities , these are the most applicable to the 2005 program:

THINKING AND TALKING contains discussion topics regarding dance, cultural perspectives, choreography, and family histories.

** Muscle Memory – Learn to use your body’s special movement memory - in every day life, and as a dancer’s special tool!

Climb Your Family Tree - Discover the geography of your family tree, and find out what dance traditions you might have in your roots.

Cultural Appreciation - The power of positive words and understanding and appreciating differences.

Why and How We Dance - An exploration of human reasons to dance.

MOVEMENT AND MUSIC includes a resource page illustrating musical instruments seen in the show, and guidance for several activities in which the students can move and dance themselves. Along with being great fun, these movement activities can help them to appreciate the diversity of dance, music, costumes, and cultural styles in the show.

**Shadow Play – Explore shadow dancing and shadow puppetry and create a traditional or modern shadow play.

**Finding the Balance – Guided play with gravity and balance.

Movement Games - Provides vocabulary to guide the children through selected movement qualities and styles in their own movement.

ART AND CONSTRUCTION provides several ideas to inspire students' own creations in preparation for and reflection of the show.

**Making Shadow Puppets – (also see Shadow Play in the Movement and Music category)

Get Ready - Shows students what it takes to put on a performance and prepares them for the crucial role of audience member.

Memory Art - A good post show activity, create work for next year's Kid's Art Gallery!

KIDSROOM Activities for the kids to try online

**CrossWorld Puzzle 2005 – Test your knowledge!

**Wait, Weight! – A great gravity guessing game
